Hemp plants The UK hemp crop is excellent for the environment.

 

Important benefits of the Hemp crop:

  • Late spring sown crop - grows up to 2.5m in just over four months!

  • Very efficient carbon sequester - 1 m2 of hemp locks the same amunt of CO2 as forested area of the same size

  • One hectare of hemp can produce as much usable fiber as 4 hectares of trees or two hectares of cotton

  • No use of any pesticides or herbicides

  • Hemp grows diverse climates and soil types. It has natural resistance and does not require pesticides. ?

  • Great for the soil - Leaf matter supplies essential nutrients back to the soil as a natural fertiliser. It also leaves a weed-free field for follow on crops while simultaneously conditioning and securing topsoil.?

  • Provides an excellent habitat for wildlife

  • Requires less fuel to grow and harvest than other crops as there is no need for chemical or mechanical weed control during the growing period
