Best Green Tea Supplements

Ah, green tea! A popular health choice for its natural benefits for all ages. These supplements are also great for weight loss and overall health improvement.

As a tired, overworked woman struggling with her weight and low energy levels, caffeine pills and non-natural supplements like fat burners do me no good. If anything, my weight not only suffers, but my heart goes into an uncomfortable rage because of all the unnecessary chemicals. Some have even been illegal, too.

Number One Pick: Zhou Nutrition’s Green Tea Extract

Zhou Nutrition’s green tea extract supplement is on top of MY list because of its significant results. The supplement provides the most benefits that green tea offers but at the lowest possible price.

Brand’s green tea supplements give you 15 mg of caffeine with “gentle energy.” This energy helps you avoid jitters, metabolism support, and brain function support. It also includes EGCG antioxidants to help support the healthy cells in your body.

I noticed an energy boost straight off of the bat! But not the synthetic kind that you’d normally get from energy pills or extra strength coffee.

It was just the right amount of pep to my step without tripping over from heartburn. One thing to be wary of if you’re sensitive to caffeine is the decreased appetite and possible jitters.

This green tea supplement is great for me as I’ve lost nearly 20 lbs within a month because your restlessness will motivate you to keep moving around. However, it suppressed my appetite to the point where I forgot to eat. I also wake up in the middle of the night a few times. So, it should be taken early in the morning to avoid this.

Here's a note to my vegan readers: the capsules are made of Bovine gelatin, so these are sadly not cruelty-free.

Overall, for under $20 for a bottle of 120 capsules? That’s a pretty good deal!

PROS

  • Immediate energy boost.
  • Very good appetite suppressant.
  • Best bang for your buck!

CONS

  • Not a choice for vegans because of the Bovine gelatin.
  • Caffeine content too much for people who are caffeine-sensitive.
  • Possible jitters.

No Jitters: Nature’s Bounty Green Tea Extract

The second top choice on my list is Nature’s Bounty Green Tea Extract for under $15. The extract contains naturally occurring EGCG (EpiGalloCatechin Gallate), catechins and polyphenols. Hence, it is a popular choice for fitness buffs and weight-loss fanatics.

Sadly, I first noticed that this doesn’t have a pleasant herbal taste or smell. It tastes slightly awful, so you better scrunch your face and swallow it quickly. I also observed that the product stimulates bowel movement very well. A little too well, in fact.

This was great for my week-long detox alongside my diet, but people with sensitive stomach need to beware. For the energy aspect, I did notice a considerable boost after taking four capsules, and no jitters whatsoever.

Note that the amount of antioxidants you get in a capsule is a bit lower than what you get from more expensive brands. So, I had to take more pills. It’s not a real waste considering its price, though.

Overall, Nature’s Bounty’s Green Tea extract just does the job with no fuss! It is worth the unpleasant taste and smell.

PROS

  • Energy boost without the jitters.
  • Great for detox.
  • Great price.

CONS

  • Can further aggravate sensitive stomachs.
  • Has a bad taste and smell.
  • Need to consume more pills in order to get more antioxidants.

Ten Bucks For A Hundred Capsules: Jarrow Formula’s Green Tea

One of the best green tea extracts comes from Jarrow’s Formula. This extract claims to offer 24/hour catechin support, 50% polyphenols, 30% catechins, and magnesium stearate (vegetable source). It is water extracted.

This green tea extract will only cost you an affordable price of under $10 for 100 capsules.

I take two capsules a day with a meal for a stable metabolic boost. Without food, it can irritate your stomach, so I sadly had to wait for my energy boost until my first meal since I tested this extract on my fasting-based diet.

It could be the magnesium aspect of the pill, but I saw that I needed to “go” with this one, especially if I need to take it without food. This could also be an inconvenience for people who don’t like to eat breakfast or even lunch (shout-out to 16:8 intermittent fasting dieters!).

Again, this is sadly another non-Vegan choice on the list because of the gelatin. Apart from that, it is an ideally good product for a good price!

PROS

  • Great quantity for the price.
  • Eliminates the need for other energy-boosters.
  • Great for detox.

CONS

  • Non-Vegan.
  • Needs to be taken with food.
  • Inconvenient bowel moment for sensitive stomachs.

Green Tea and Vitamin C Combo: NOW Green Tea Extract

For under $15, NOW Green Tea Extract gives you a Kosher, non-GMO, product with polyphenols and catechins. Not only that but it is also packed with VItamin C+!

Also, vegans, vegetarians, and cruelty-free enthusiasts are okay to take it because this product also holds the name “veggie capsule”. Well, it is extracted from trees.

Apart from the benefits of the green tea extract, I also lack a good dose of vitamin C. Hence, this added benefit from NOW really felt welcoming. My skin became less dry and flaky over a couple of weeks of taking this.

The energy boost from this capsule is good enough, that if you’re cutting back on coffee and energy drinks as I am, you can completely skip those. I took my minimum two capsules with a meal.

I pushed my luck with this at first try and took two on an empty stomach in the morning. After that, I went running straight into the bathroom after thirty minutes. Lesson learned!

Another thing to note is that if you take this in the afternoon, don’t expect to get a full night’s sleep.

One capsule a day, with 250 capsules for only under $15? Plus, it’s Kosher? I could live with that!

PROS

  • The best quantity for the price.
  • Includes Vitamin C+!
  • Kosher and non-GMO.

CONS

  • Stomach ache if not taken with a meal.
  • Restlessness at night if taken at noon.
  • Not for people who are very caffeine-sensitive.

Great Source Of Weight Loss: Great Seasons Nutrition Green Tea Extract Supplement

Another excellent choice on this list from Great Seasons gives us 98% GTE which includes N-theanine for a healthy heart and EGCG from Green Tea. It also has 75% of polyphenol and catechins, and the minimum of naturally occurring caffeine at 5%.

Here’s another one to be careful with when you want to avoid the jitters! As usual, I started off with two capsules on an empty stomach, so I can tell if this also annoys my stomach, and it did!

For those who aren’t used to caffeine, one pill is definitely enough because more than one pill causes restlessness, too.

I put that energy to good use and got more reps than expected in my usual workout. Also, the appetite-suppressing properties and my diet helped me lose another 4 lbs in a week.

The pill is also available in suitable sizes that are easy to swallow. Now, this didn’t do much for my skin or anything else but energy and metabolism. It’s so darn good at it, though!

For about less than $17, Great Seasons will give you a good mental buzz for hours without crashing. Gym goers out there will undoubtedly benefit from this.

PROS

  • Gives great mental focus.
  • Great appetite suppressant.
  • Great for fitness enthusiasts.

CONS

  • Jitters if you overdo it.
  • Did nothing for my skin.
  • Must take with meals or suffer inconvenient bowel movements.

Be Wise, Get Zenwise: Zenwise Green Tea Extract Supplement

Not if you’re conscious about your caffeine intake, Zenwise offers us a good deal of under $24. Their decaffeinated pills loaded with GTE, polyphenol, and catechins added with a boost of Vitamin C is a catch.

These are easy to swallow with no taste or smell as it does my skin good with the vitamin C. It also made my hair and nails grow faster which is a happy side effect. I also did not experience any jitters due to its decaffeinated properties, but instead, it boosted my energy during my workout.

Taking two pills after a meal will give you proper mental focus and a good four hours of high energy for a satisfying workout.

Since most products have their cons, I noticed a couple of downsides that you’d commonly find in fat burners: dry mouth and stomach cramps. The dry mouth didn’t bother me much because it made me drink more water. But imagine my surprise when I had stomach cramps at night even if it doesn’t have caffeine! It could be the magnesium. Who knows? Nevertheless, my body got used to it after a couple of days.

Overall, you get what you pay for if you’re looking to having glowing skin, fast results after the gym, and caffeine- and cruelty-free option.

PROS

  • Vegan and Gluten-free.
  • Has Vitamin C.
  • Awesome for weight loss and diet.

CONS

  • Stomach cramps.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Do not take if you’re sensitive to the ingredients.

Does The Job: Nobi Nutrition Green Tea Extract

Nobi comes on this list with the usual: 98% GTE, 75% polyphenol and catechins, and 5% naturally occurring caffeine.

For 60 capsules under $13, you better expect some results!

I noticed that this pill doesn’t have a taste or smell as I took two in the morning without a meal. There were also no problems with my stomach. I got a good three hours of intense workout and a nice comedown without the crash a little while after.

Without a workout, I did get the jitters sitting idly. My skin also cleared up and got a lot more supple.

The Nobi Nutrition Green Tea Extract is a no-nonsense green tea extract supplement! This extract is pretty great for the price. However, I go through these rather quickly, so you need to be stingy with how much you take and for what purpose.

PROS

  • Gives you energy without the crash.
  • Gives you clearer skin.
  • Does the job exactly!

CONS

  • Only 60 capsules.
  • Gives you jitters if you overdo it.
  • Not great for people with heart problems.

Extend Your Mental Focus: Life Extension Mega Green Extract

Vegetarian and decaffeinated green tea extract supplements with the usual ECGC for under $20 is what Life Extension offers us on this list.

I took two as usual without a meal, as it was recommended. And I had quivers, so it forced me to sweat it out which was a welcomed push in my workout routine!

I’m happy about being able to skip meals when taking this supplement because of my intermittent fasting diet.

My skin remained acne-free, and my appetite was nicely suppressed. But it left my stomach and mind a total mess when I took this with food, funnily enough.

Does it extend my life as the name suggests? No idea, but the energy it provides me is more than enough to last me a good day at work.

PROS

  • Improved cognitive function.
  • Great energy boost.
  • You can skip meals!

CONS

  • Nausea if taken with food
  • Kind of pricey.
  • Not for people who are sensitive to the ingredients.

Factors To Consider When Choosing The Best Green Tea Extract

Mind your budget, the percentage and the exact ingredients on the list, and how your body responds to the supplement, and you won’t have any problems. Check out the factors that you need to consider when choosing the best green tea extract!

Green Tea

Price

Nobody wants to be spending big bucks over a bottle for just a few hours of a mild buzz. If you’re wondering why a big brand’s green tea extract is more expensive than another brand, but for virtually the same content of green tea benefits, you are paying more for the brand that manufactures and handles the product.

Content

This element relates to the previous factor as well. There are tons of big brands out there that seem to offer higher percentages of antioxidants with each capsule. Cheaper brands will provide you with the same antioxidants but in much smaller amounts, hence the lower price. This will cause you to consume more of the product to get the full benefits of green tea.

Green Tea Content

Make sure to read the contents at the back

For example, 50% of polyphenols are provided in one capsule versus half of that in a capsule offered in another brand.

So, before the antioxidants, caffeine content, and other health benefits of a brand wow you, be sure to read the contents at the back. It could save you a pretty penny. And a heart and a liver, too! Some brands have unreasonably higher caffeine contents than others.

Sensitivity

Obviously, we want to take green tea supplements for the energy boost without jitters. However, since it still contains caffeine, it still might give you jitters and possibly insomnia if you overdo it or if you’re particularly sensitive to the ingredients. This also includes having bowel movement induced because of the supplement.

Verdict

Zhou Nutrition’s Green Tea Extract does not only tell the customers exactly what is inside their product but also delivers for a really great price. There will be no jitters but great energy and mental focus! What more could you ask for?

Zhou Nutrition’s Green Tea Extract

Overall

Whether it be for weight loss, a metabolic push, or overall health boost, there’s no doubt why green tea extracts have been so popular for many years.

I am actually not fond of drinking the herb myself because of the taste and also because I simply have no time. But taking it in pill form saves the time in brewing and steeping for us busy bees.

Furthermore, most manufacturers of reputable brands produce their green tea extracts through natural and “mostly” animal cruelty-free methods. Now you can consider that these supplements are beneficial to our health, wallet, and time.

That’s why this list is going to help you out with getting the most out of the best green tea extracts out there!
